NOTICE OF RACE
1 ORGANIZING AUTHORITY
The Organizing Authority (OA) will be the Yacht Racing Union of the Great Lakes (YRUGL) hosted by
the Wayzata Yacht Club (WYC) and the Lake Superior Yachting Association (LSYA).
2 VENUE
The venue will be on the main lake of Lake Minnetonka. The Wayzata Yacht Club will be the regatta
center and offices for the Wayzata Yacht Club Richardson Organizing Committee.
3. EVENT GRADING
The event is an ISAF Grade 3. This grading is subject to review by the ISAF Match Race Advisory
Board. The event may be re-graded when there is a clear reason to do so.
4 PROVISIONAL PROGRAM
4.1
(a) The Race Office will be open 1200-2100 hrs Thursday October 9, 2008
(b) Registration will be from 1200 to 2100 at Wayzata Yacht Club, October 9, 2008
(c) Crew weighing will be at WYC from 1200 to 2100 on Thursday October 9, 2008. Any requests for an
extension shall be granted at the discretion of the Organizing Authority.
(d) Practice sailing will be from 1300 to 1800 Thursday October 9, 2008. Teams shall complete registration
prior to practice sailing.
(e) A welcoming breakfast reception and initial briefing of skippers and crews will be 0800 Friday, October
10, 2008 at WYC. The first meeting with the umpires will follow immediately.
(f) Racing days will be on Friday October 10, Saturday October 11, and Sunday October 12, 2008.
(g) Time of the first race will be 1000 on Friday 10th. Time of the first race will be 0900 on Saturday 11th
and Sunday 12th.
(h) A social program will be provided.
(i) Awards will be presented on Sunday October 12, 2008 as soon after the last race as possible.
4.2 Unless excused by the OA, attendance at the following is mandatory:
(a) Initial briefing for skippers – Dress Code racing attire.
(b) Regatta Cocktail Party, for skippers and crews Friday night– Dress Code
Business Casual.
(c) Awards presentation – Dress Code Business Casual.
5 ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY
5.1 Up to twelve (12) skippers and crews will be invited to this event. Only skippers and crews invited by the
OA will be eligible to enter this event.
5.2 Two (2) Skippers and crews will be invited from the participating clubs of the YRUGL as determined
by each of the Regional Associations (LSYA, LHYA, LMSRA, DRYA, ILYA & LYRA). To remain
eligible a skipper shall confirm their intention to compete in writing to the Regatta Chairman (e-mail is
acceptable) to be received by one week before this Regatta.
5.3 All skippers shall meet the eligibility of ISAF RRS Appendix 19.2.
5.4 All competitors shall obtain an ISAF Sailor ID prior to applying to sail in the regatta and that ISAF Sailor
ID shall be supplied at the time of registration.
5.5 The registered skipper for each crew shall helm the boat at all times while racing, except in an emergency.
5.6 To remain eligible a skipper shall confirm acceptance of invitation in writing, (fax or e-mail is acceptable) to be
received by the date specified on the letter of invitation.
Invitations
5.7 If you wish to be invited contact your YRUGL Member Lake Association for information on the qualifying
round.
5.8 If you did not attend your member association qualifying round and there is an open position at the
Richardson for your member association to advance a competitor, you need to:
(a) Make application to your member association to have them elect, by resume, your application to
compete in the Richardson Trophy Regatta.
(b) Your member association will then forward your application to the YRUGL / RYC Richardson Trophy

6 ENTRIES
6.1 Fees:
A non-refundable entry fee of $400.00 (US) shall be paid at the time that the application is submitted. The
team shall be entered upon completion of registration, crew weighing and the payment of all fees and
deposits. All payments shall be made by cash, check or credit card in $(US) and shall be received by the host
club as soon as reasonably possible based on the date of the ladder event run by the member association to
determine the representatives from that member association.
6.2 Damage Deposit
(a) A damage deposit of $500.00 (US) shall be paid at registration. This deposit is the maximum payable
by the skipper as a result of any one incident.
(b) In the event that a deduction from the damage deposit is made by the OA, it may require that the
deposit be restored to its original amount before the skipper will be permitted to continue in the event.
(c) Any remaining deposits will be refunded within two weeks after the event minus the costs of any yacht
damage or other costs incurred and left unpaid, for which the Organizing Authority deems the skipper to
be responsible for.
6.3 Insurance
Each skipper shall pay the Wayzata Yacht Club US $100 no later that October 9th 2008 in accordance with
Nor 6.1 for insurance premiums for the regatta. This amount is not refundable.
RULES
7.1 The event will be governed by the rules as defined in the RRS, including Appendix C. and the
Richardson Trophy Deed of Gift (www.imsrf.org/yrugl/amended.htm).
7.2 If there is a conflict between the NOR and the Sailing Instructions it will be resolved in favour of the
Sailing Instructions. This changes RRS 63.7
7.3 USCG approved PFDs shall be worn at all times by competitors while on the water, other than brief
periods while adding or removing clothing. The “Y” flag will not be flown. All competitors must supply
their own PFD’s. This modifies RRS 40
7.4 The first sentence of C11.1 is changed to read as follows. “A round robin series means a group of
competitors, who are all scheduled to sail against each other one or more times.”
7.5 Class rules will not apply.
8 BOATS AND SAILS
8.1 The event will be sailed in J22 type boats. Boats will be provided by the Wayzata Yacht Club.
8.2 The following sails will be provided for each boat: Mainsail, Jib, and Spinnaker.
8.3 Boats will be assigned as decided by the Race Committee and the OA.
9 CREW (INCLUDING SKIPPER)
9.1 Each team shall consist of 3 or 4 people including the skipper. The registered skippers shall sail in
all races.
9.2 The total crew weight shall not exceed 262 kg (575 pounds).
9.3 The maximum total crew weight, determined prior to racing shall be 575 lbs, when wearing at least
shorts and shirts. Crews weighing within 5% of the maximum weight may be subject to a reweigh at
any time during the regatta.
9.4 When a registered skipper is unable to continue in the event the OA may authorize an original crew
member to substitute.
9.5 When a registered crew member is unable to continue in the event the OA may authorize a substitute, a
temporary substitute or other adjustment.
10 EVENT FORMAT
Three days of racing is scheduled. The intended format for this regatta is:
Stage 1 – Round Robin
Stage 2 – 2nd Round Robin
Stage 3 – Finals and Petit Finals.
The OA may change the format, terminate or eliminate any round, when conditions do not permit the
completion of the intended format.
11 THE COURSE
11.1 The intended course will be windward/leeward with starboard roundings, finishing downwind.
11.2 The intended course area will be on the main lake of Lake Minnetonka, Wayzata, Minnesota.
12 ADVERTISING
12.1 As boats and equipment will be supplied by the OA, ISAF Regulation 20, 20.3.2 will apply and Category C
advertising as supplied by the OA is to be displayed on equipment provided by the OA or the host club.
12.2 Boats shall not be permitted the right to protest for breaches of any rules with regards to advertising
(amends RRS 60.1)
13 PRIZES
The winner shall be awarded the Richardson Trophy, a perpetual trophy, subject to the terms of its deed
of gift.
MEDIA, IMAGES, AND SOUND
The OA may require competitors to be available for interviews and/or photographs. The OA shall have
the right to use any images and sound recorded during the event free of any charge.
15 COACH BOATS
Coach boats are not permitted.
16 DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY
Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See Rule 4, Decision to Race. All
those taking part in the event do so at their own risk. The OA, its associates and appointees
accept no responsibility for any loss, damage, injury or inconvenience incurred, howsoever
caused.

Add Section 9.6
As of the above date, the Organizing Authority has amended the NoR regarding the total crew weight. Section 9.6 shall read: βThe total crew weight shall not exceed 275 kg (606.27 lbs). All other reference to the previous weight limit should be interrupted accordingly.β
